Jan Stokes
Growing up on a smallholding in the 1960's, Jan developed a love of the
countryside. The shock of moving to a town in the 1970's prompted a novel
about the countryside, followed by painting in the 1980's.
"I choose to paint a scene because of the lighting effects, the
way the sunshine and shadows hit water or a cottage wall. Careful research
into the state of the tide and the position of the sun, are made together
with weather forecasts before a painting trip."
Jan's Still Life and Life Drawings are treated with equal care, and have
also won awards. Since those early days, many living painters of National
and International Reputation have shared their knowledge with her. These
led to:
An invitation to lecture Art - via Adult Education at St. Austell College.
Two, one man shows at the Dower House Gallery, Lostwithiel.
Eight for McMillan Exhibition and card printing with Ben Maile and John
Miller.
Selected Exhibitions both regionally and nationally.
Jan's work is in public and private collections worldwide. Many paintings
are now available in Limited Edition Prints.
